Hair Removal Methods

Over the centuries, males and females have sought out hairless skin all over their bodies, and a bounty of hair removal methods have been developed to achieve that goal. Perhaps the most common hair removal method is shaving, originally conceived as the removal of body hair via the use of a sharp object. While shaving is relatively easy and doesn't require much time, you do need to do it daily to maintain smooth skin, and it carries with it some troublesome side effects such as razor bumps and stubble.

Chemical depilatory creams dissolve hair at the skin level and give a similar result to shaving; however, the hair does grow back stubbly initially and some people find the creams irritate their skin, causing rashes and redness. Many depilatory creams are also messy and pungent in smell.

Waxing and sugaring give longer results than shaving or depilatories do, as the hair is pulled out by the root, and usually takes a few weeks to grow back. Plucking and threading work by the same principles as waxingâ€"all six methods yank out hair by the root, allowing for smooth skin immediately and a longer regrowth period. Unfortunately, all six hair removal methods also carry with them the common side effects of raw skin immediately following the procedure and then ugly ingrown hairs as the hair begins to repopulate the area.

New Advances in Hair Removal Methods

When electrolysis and laser hair removal came onto the scene, people were relieved to finally have more permanent solutions to unwanted hair. Both methods offer long-term results and few risks; however, laser hair removal is generally less painful and requires less time than electrolysis.
