Permanent Hair Removal Methods

There are several ways to get rid of unwanted hair, but most of them aren't permanent. Hair removal methods that have existed for centuries include plucking each individual hair out by the roots, scraping the hair off at the skin line with a sharp-edged instrument, and spreading a sticky substance such as wax or a sugar solution on the skin, pressing it with a compress, and pulling of the hair with the compress. Each of these techniques has its drawbacks, most of them are painful, and none of them have permanent results.

There are only two permanent hair removal methods: electrolysis and laser treatment. With electrolysis, a very small-gauge needle is inserted directly into the hair follicle. An electrical charge is run through the needle, permanently damaging the follicle. Hair will not regrow in a follicle treated by electrolysis. However, the procedure is extremely painful, and since each follicle must be treated individually, it takes several protracted treatments even for small areas. Electrolysis is simply impractical for larger areas.

Laser Treatment Is the Best of Permanent Hair Removal Methods

Laser treatment also takes several sessions for complete hair removal, but it is not painful, and can be used over much larger areas. Like electrolysis, laser treatment disables the follicle by means of heat and energy. However, it does not have to be done manually, one follicle at a time. Instead, the intense beam of light that is the laser is drawn to the darker pigment in the hair, so there's no need for needles or a follicle-by-follicle procedure.
