Safe Permanent Hair Removal

Laser treatment represents the most effective strategy for safe, permanent hair removal. Whereas waxing typically relies on regular monthly sessions and electrolysis can take literally hundreds of hours while hairs are removed one at a time, laser devices allow for rapid, gentle removal of undesired hair. To get the best results, it helps to understand and plan for the full treatment protocol.

Is There Such a Thing as Safe, Permanent Hair Removal?

Safe, permanent hair removal does exist, but it requires a gradual approach to treatment. The standard protocol for laser hair removal involves between four and six sessions that are spaced between four and six weeks apart. You can expect some hair regrowth in between sessions because hair that was in the dormant stage of the growth cycle during your initial treatment session may enter the growth stage in the interim.

A full course of treatment ensures that all hair in the target region receives the laser procedure. Over the course of laser treatment, your sessions may begin to be spaced further apart to account for the slower growth of the remaining hair. For the majority of patients, a full course of treatment (i.e., 6-8 sessions) produces far more than a 75% permanent hair reduction.

Although a small portion of patients report only temporary hair reduction, this is quite rare and occurs most frequently in patients with white hair. The typical patient can expect safe, permanent hair removal from an experienced physician. However, almost every patient should plan on annual touch up sessions following the end of treatment to address stray hairs that may periodically resurface.
